Job Title: Registered Nurse

Grade: RN1

Department: Medical and Nursing Care

Position reports to: RN2

Supervisory Responsibility for: Practical Nurses and EAN

 

Job Summary

Reporting to RN2 the incumbent is responsible for direct and indirect nursing care and treatment of residents to facilitate the provision of optimum health care in keeping with the aims and objectives of the organization.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing from an accredited Institution
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
  • Certificate in Caring for the elderly
  • Three (3) years work experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Experience working with the Elderly population will be an asset
  • Professional qualification and or certification in Supervisory Management would be an asset

 

Responsibilities

Supervisory and Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, monitor and account for effective performance of Practical Nurses and EANs in the execution of their duties
  • Conduct performance appraisals of Practical Nurses and EANs within the Nursing Department

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Assists in promoting the general Nursing Service of the Home by setting and maintaining a high level of professional standards
  • Assists the Medical Officer by being present for the examination and treatment for current and new admissions and bring to the attention of the RN2 (if not on duty then the Nursing Supervisor), any matter of concern regarding the residents
  • Administer medications as directed
  • Observes, records and reports vital signs, symptom changes or reaction to

        Medication

  • Educates Practical Nurses as well as Cluster Supervisors of residents who are in need of special medical care while on the cluster
  • Complete the Resident Medical Report Form for all residents going to hospital or on doctors’ visits
  • Provides a safe hygienic environment for residents
  • Assign specific nursing duties to the Practical  Nurses within the Nursing Department
  • Interviews and assesses residents and in collaboration with  RN2, refers residents to the internal Medical Practitioner or to hospitals or other health facilities
  • Treats minor ailments
  • Gives subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous injections as directed by internal Medical Practitioner
  • Visit clusters and sees residents as directed by RN2, Nursing Supervisor, the Medical Officer or as requested by the Cluster Supervisor
  • Assist in the rehabilitation and therapy of residents
  • Conduct naso-gastric tube insertions when required
  • Monitor the completion of relevant forms by the Practical Nurses
  • Monitor and record the effective administration of treatment for Wound Care as administered by the Practical Nurses
  • Administer Intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly
  • Administer insulin therapy to diabetics
  • Ensure all Medication Incident Report Forms are completed when medication errors occur

Other Duties:

  • Performs other related duties that may be assigned from time to time

Note

Salary Range: $942,802- $1, 120, 696 per annum.

Tailoring Allowance: $101,517 per annum.

Sessional hours available.
